Pass plus

Beyond the driving test… Pass Plus is a course of six modules that develops and encourages the attitudes and skills that are essential for safe driving for life. It is for new drivers and it’s aim is to improve your driving skills and make you a safer driver. It can also lead to insurance discounts.

The scheme has been designed by the Driving Standards Agency with the help of the motor insurance and driving instruction industries, to develop your skills and knowledge in areas where you may have limited experience.

As an indication of its effectiveness a survey conducted showed that after taking the course:

  • 93% felt more confident on the road
  • 89% considered that their driving skills had improved

Pass Plus will benefit you by:

  • Enabling you to gain quality driving experience safely
  • Helping you become a more skillful driver
  • Teaching you how to develop a more positive driving style which is both enjoyable and safe
  • Reducing your risk of being in a road crash
  • Possibly saving you money on your car insurance

As a newly qualified driver you’ve shown, by passing the test, that you are able to drive unsupervised on the road, but you are much more vulnerable than you realise. Statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have an accident within the first two years of passing their test than any other time in their driving career. It is not because of your age, it is because of your lack of experience. This is reflected in the car insurance premiums.

Pass Plus is much more than just a few driving lessons. As well as gaining further driving experience you’ll be taught how to deal with situations you may not have faced before. The course will show you some of the reason why things can go wrong on the road and what you can do to prevent them from happening. By completing the syllabus successfully you’ll gain the satisfaction of driving safely, in a more positive and controlled way.

There is no test at the end of the Pass Plus course, you will just be evaluated as you go along and will have a progress report which will be sent to the Driving Standards Agency who will in turn send you a certificate of completion.

I belong to a scheme provided by Hampshire County Council and subsidised by the Government that provides £75 towards the cost of the course. Please call me to find out how you can do this.
